Having 'Fun' with Carsten Andersson...

Welcome to a new artist who has already set the blogosphere talking with the release of his new song Fun. His name's Carsten Andersson, he's of Danish-German origin and his first worldwide single has been produced by the team who have also worked with Aaron Carter and the Sugababes.

But it's not just his singing that's got people talking...oh no...our Mr Andersson has, in a past life, been a bona fide gay porn star. So he's had plenty of his fair share of Fun!

Hotwired

Hard On and RUT, two of the biggest names on the London leather/rubber scene, are coming together to hold a massive one-off leather party at a top-secret location in early October.

So far all that has been disclosed is that the venue will be a 15,000 sq foot raw industrial space located within Zone 1, set to be transformed into a hard-core dance scene providing a night of unprecedented leather and rubber enjoyment.

Featuring sets from Brent Nicholls, Jon Delano and Dick Rock, with further top guests to be announced in due course.

Reach for the Sky at UCL

It's almost certainly too late to apply for this year, but if you're looking to study in higher education over the coming years, are an educator looking for a job, or know someone with such ambitions, then you can do a lot worse than recommend London's UCL.

Historically the first British university to admit students regardless of class, race or gender, notable alumni include Jonathan Ross, Ricky Gervais, Chris Martin, Alexander Graham Bell (without whom you would have no iPhone or BlackBerry), Anthony Gormley, Christine Ohuruogu and a throng of international political leaders.

True to these traditions, not only is it the world's fourth-best university (according to the authoritative Times Higher Education QS survey), it is also one of the best for LGBT students, according to Stonewall. 

Indeed, the charity has awarded UCL ten out of ten in its influential university guide, compiled from information in the public domain and answers from students to satisfaction questionnaires. It was found to be an outstanding performer across a range of criteria, including:

• a harassment policy which makes explicit reference to homophobia, appropriate sanctions for those who are homophobic and protection for those who are victims of such bullying
• mandatory teaching and support staff training on lesbian, gay and bisexual issues as part of its diversity training
• a publicised network group for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff which is supported by the university
• a specific student society for lesbian, gay and bisexual students which is active and provides a meeting point for lesbian, gay and bisexual students.

With a massive programme and superb reputation for student satisfaction - not least on the basis of being able to say that one's university is higher-ranked than Oxford - UCL looks set to be one of the jewels in the capital's crown for generations to come.

In Search of Donald Judd

Charles Saatchi may be maligned amongst the art crowd, but when asked which recent artists would be remembered by history, he said something quite right: ‘Every artist other than Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol, Donald Judd and Damien Hirst will be a footnote.’

Some might question Damien Hirst’s inclusion amongst this hallowed group given the panning he received for his cack-handed recent attempts at painting, but what cannot be argued about is the contribution of the American artist and writer Donald Judd (1928-1994), a reluctant ‘minimalist’ whose works blended design, architecture and sculpture, and explored notions of space and how it could be compartmentalised.  Due to the more technical, less immediate nature of his work, he may even be the 'undiscovered' hero of Saatchi’s anointed group.

Birmingham’s majestic IKON Gallery presents the first UK exhibition of the artist’s furniture and related drawings.  Titled A good chair is a good chair, it explores his wood, metal and plywood treatment of chairs, beds, shelves, desks and tables; those who appreciate clean lines and precision are sure to be indulged. Respond in kind by investing in the exhibition catalogue, featuring Judd’s essay It’s hard to find a good lamp – his writing was as measured and astute as his art works.

Indian Adventure - behind the scenes with Garry Lee

We blogged about Garry's photography last week when we shared some shots from a test he did with a model on the Greek Islands. 

This shot is a 'behind the scenes' image of him at work in India shooting some travel pics.

Meet the lovely Raffi Cote, the latest muse for photographer Mark Stout. Currently living in Grand Junction, Colorado but about to move to New Mexico he was discovered via one of the model/photographer networking sites. What impressed Stout was his ability to 'act the part' and pour a lot of depth, emotion and feeling into his pictures.

These shots were taken at an old marble quarry where everything in the area was built out of marble in the 1800s and we're pleased to be able to share them with you as this is the first time they will have been published anywhere.
