Something for Sunday: Introducing Brandon Schinaman

We renewed an old acquaintance recently and we have him (Rick Altman from Apotheosis Productions) to thank for this set of pictures shot by Rick Day of emerging new talent Brandon Schinaman.

Brandon is a 21 year old actor/model who lives in Los Angeles, California.  He is appearing in the upcoming David DeCoteau flick, Voodoo Academy 2 which is due for release this summer. Given DeCoteau's proclivity for having male cast members in underwear for most of his films,  Brandon clearly has nothing to worry about judging by the shots here.

We're going to make sure we keep our eyes on this kid's career as it is surely heading in an upward direction.

 

Watch 'Adam' - helping to raise gay self-acceptance

‘Adam’ - The Gay Short Film Project was produced with the help of a social media fan base interacting with costume decisions, narrative choices and who even watched the project being shot live via Ustream.

The short film mocks up a futuristic advert for a customisable robot and uses the mechanical metaphor to say we should never seek to control, suppress or silence a person, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. We are not robots.

The film is the work of UK filmmaker Mike Buonaiuto who explained the concept to us in more detail, "I wanted to shoot something engaging, with a universal message about self-acceptance and homophobia... I hope the film will inspire young people struggling with accepting their sexuality due to bullying or fear to find confidence within themselves. We are not machines, we are human and we cannot be controlled, suppressed or silenced."

The Passing of A Legend: Elizabeth Taylor RIP

The Stars in Hollywood will be dimmer today with the passing of one of Hollywood's greatest actresses.

Dame Elizabeth Taylor had a career spanning six decades and was a leading lady from the start. With her magnetic screen presence and off-screen life she has remained a favourite throughout her career. They don't make 'em like that anymore...

Coming Soon: Archer Season 1 (on DVD)

Music to our ears that this fantastic show is arriving on a DVD release soon (May 2 to be precise).

For those of you who've not seen it - Archer is an animated comedy set at the International Secret Intelligence Service (ISIS), a spy agency where global crises are merely opportunities for its highly trained employees to confuse, undermine, betray and manipulate each other. Sterling Archer, deemed the ‘world’s most deadly secret agent’, does his job purely for the accompanying jetset lifestyle of women, parties and fast cars! 

The series is voiced by H. Jon Benjamin (Family Guy) as Archer, Jessica Walter (Arrested Development) as Archer’s domineering mother and boss Malory, Aisha Taylor (24) as Archer’s ex-girlfriend Lara Kane, George Coe (Saturday Night Live) as Woodhouse, Archer’s long suffering butler, and Judy Greer (Love and Other Drugs) as Cheryl, Malory’s ditzy secretary.

It is hugely entertaining and bloody funny! Well worth adding to your DVD collection.

 

Archer Season 1 will be released on 2 May 2011 by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment with an RRP of £15.99

'PUMP' by Rameses Crisi

Fitness artist Rameses Crisi is based in New York City and has just released his new short film entitled 'PUMP. It's a sensual short that shows flesh but is intended to stimulate though through its use of raw human imagery and sound.

It shows the viewer that there is more to modern day fitness than just plain testosterone domination!

One to Watch: The Multi-Faceted Mr Lovitz

What exactly is it that makes a 'star'? We have spent many hours debating the question; usually when yet another press release extolling the virtues of a musician, actor, model or writer as  'the next big thing' arrives. In many cases though a better choice of words could be 'here today, gone tommorrow'. 

Once in a while though somebody comes along who does make you sit up and take notice and it is into this category that we'd firmly place Mr Jonathan Lovitz, a  very talented and annoyingly good looking actor whose career in theatre, film and television is steadily rising stateside.

His  resume lists everything from puppet skills to history nut and he's appeared in productions of Chicago, The Little Shop of Horrors and the Laramie Project and on MTV's The Set Up Squad to name but a few. He's also a  friend of reFRESH founder and Editor-in-Chief David Tickner who is famously hard to impress, "after one conversation I felt as though I'd known him for years. A truly talented and extremely inspirational young actor who very much deserves to see all of his dreams become a reality."

He's just signed with a new theatrical agency and in his own words, 'is on cloud nine' which is where you'll find yourself when you scroll down and see some of his pictures (courtesy of his website)!

Looks aside this guy is the real deal and we're going to watch his progress very closely...
